Rebecca is an American figurative painter  who works from observation. She has a Degree in painting and drawing from Stanford University and was taught by Bay area painters and abstract expressionists. Although  she is always looking at what she's painting sometimes what she’s looking at won’t make the best painting or tell the best story, so she uses her egg tempera toolbox and creative license to tune the image to create harmony and balance.
Rebecca explores the tensions between two ways of working with egg tempera: like gouache or glowing with glazes.  She is attracted to edges and likes to direct the gaze by varying the realism in the painting. Her work can also be read as a colour study. Rebecca assembles her still life arrangements from her collections to create both physical and emotional relationships.
Rebecca also creates sketchbooks from old books she finds.  The words suggest things as she draws in soft pastel. Some of these sketchbooks are thematicsometimes they are turned into supports for 'opened book' drawings.
Rebecca exhibits regularly with the RBA and the SWA  and shows locally in Suffolk. She has been shortlisted for the 2023 RA Summer Exhibition, was longlisted for the Jackson Painting Prize, 2022, & shortlisted for  the Holly Bush Painting Prize, 2022. She was NEAC drawing Scholar 2018 and is an ArtCan member.
